  • Outstanding Habitat and Biodiversity Value

This large, mature River Red Gum could represent a source of future propagating stock as it is a remnant tree predating colonial settlement in the area from a time when the natural intermittent watercourse flowed along the path of Koornang Rd. The tree has a significant trunk girth, with spreading canopy and is 300+ years old. It is and outstanding, large tree and is unique in being one of the few remnant trees growing on private lands within Glen Eira City Council.

The tree has previously suffered due to lack of sufficient protection and care from past developments close to the tree but is showing good signs of recovery. It should continue to respond well to future care and protection. The tree attracts a range of native birdlife and has some hollows present that may be serving as nesting sites.
