Council elections

The Glen Eira City Council election will be held this October.

Glen Eira City Council is dedicated to fostering a fair, respectful and inclusive environment for all. We uphold our democratic values by valuing personal freedoms, civic responsibilities, and the right to express diverse viewpoints, provided it is done respectfully and without causing harm.

We respect that people have different views and ideas and will want to express them freely. Participation in the democratic process enables everyone with different views, interests and ideas to come together and discuss their views with a sense of common purpose. As we approach the council elections, we encourage all candidates and community members to actively participate and promote fairness, inclusivity, tolerance and respect for other’s views. This year’s Council election is an opportunity to democratically elect candidates who align with our Community Vision of a thriving, empowered, and sustainable community.

There is a range of resources available to support and inform candidates and community members on our website. We encourage everyone to take this opportunity to reflect on and embrace our core democratic values:

  • Respect — for individuals and their right to make their own choices
  • Tolerance — to accept differences and opposing ideas
  • Equity — to value and support everyone to reach their full potential
  • Freedom of speech, association, movement and belief
  • Justice — to treat everyone fairly.

Our Council and Councillors stand behind these values. We encourage all candidates and community members to stand with us and ensure that this year’s local government elections in Glen Eira are safe and respectful for all involved.
