Mallanbool Ward — Councillor Kimberley Young, was sworn in on Monday 18 November 2024.
Cr Kimberley Young
Cr Young is a first-time Councillor for Glen Eira, bringing an extensive professional career in law and public policy. She holds a number of formal qualifications, including a Bachelor of Laws/Bachelor of Arts (International Studies) and Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice.
She was selected for the 2023/24 Women Leading Locally Fellowship and also attained a Certificate in Community Leadership and Governance (Local Government).
Cr Young is a lawyer with over 10 years’ experience in the legal sector, spanning public policy, advocacy, social justice and legislation in the areas of criminal, family violence, mental health and sentencing law. She also brings experience as a disability advocate, having volunteered in community health and safety programs.
As a mother of a young child, Cr Young is passionate about ensuring Glen Eira is a safe, healthy and inclusive community that looks after its people and environment. She is committed to supporting the most vulnerable members of our community, including children, people living with a disability, seniors and new community members.
Outside of her professional life, Kimberley has been playing classical music since the age of five and enjoys travelling and spending time with her family in their restored 1950s vintage caravan.
She is passionate about representing the balance of constituent needs with capability and kindness, advocating for evidence-based policies, projects and decision-making, and ensuring Glen Eira continues to thrive as a welcoming and compassionate community.
