Cr Li Zhang

Wattle Grove Ward — Councillor Li Zhang, was sworn in on Monday 18 November 2024.

Cr Zhang was elected Councillor for the City of Glen Eira in November 2020 and re-elected in November 2024. She also served as Deputy Mayor for the 2021/22 Council year.  

She holds an MBA from the University of Melbourne and brings over 20 years of business experience to her role.

Cr Zhang is committed to responsible rates, high-quality core services, enhanced community safety, increased green spaces and tree canopy, reducing inappropriate development, improving sporting facilities, and supporting local businesses. 

A dedicated community advocate, she has actively volunteered at local schools, supported emerging artists, mentored youth, and assisted senior citizen groups.

Born in China, Cr Zhang holds a Bachelor’s degree in Japanese Language and Literature and is a trilingual speaker of Mandarin, Japanese, and English. She has published books and articles, further contributing to the cultural and intellectual vibrancy of the community. 

In recognition of her long-standing contributions to multicultural communities, she has been selected for induction into the Multicultural Honour Roll by the Victorian Multicultural Commission (VMC) in December 2024. 

In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, reading, and cooking. A passionate footy player, Li is also the founder and captain of the AFL Nine Melbourne Loong Team.
