What is car sharing?
Car share services give you the benefits of accessible transportation without the obligations and costs of owning a car. The cost of car share is based on the usage by the driver. Paying for the time you use a car which can be booked for a short trip or multiple days.
Traffic congestion in urban areas is a challenge facing all community members. Victoria saw an 8.3% increase in vehicles registered between 2015 and 2020. This increase in traffic places greater strain on parking availability and driver on-road time. By using car share, Glen Eira residents and visitors can enjoy the benefits of accessing a car while reducing the number of cars on our roads.
Car sharing benefits
The benefits of car sharing include:
- Cost savings for users (paying for the time you use a car, not the other standard costs of car ownership)
- Access to a range of current model cars
- Allocated parking bays for car share vehicles when collecting and returning cars
- 24/7 booking via desktop or mobile device.
Car share locations
Currently, there are two car share providers, GoGet and FlexiCar providing 17 car share bays within Glen Eira. These bays are found in convenient locations within Caulfield East, Caulfield North, Carnegie, Elsternwick, Glen Huntly and Ormond.
