Talking Shops: Glen Eira Stories

Peek behind the scenes of some of Glen Eira’s long-running businesses. Get to know the owners and their stories and learn how Glen Eira’s streetscapes have changed over time.

Talking Shops: Glen Eira Stories was open to the public at Glen Eira City Council Gallery from 17 November 2023 to 28 January 2024, and is now available to view as a digital exhibition.

Talking Shops: Glen Eira Stories explores the distinctive character and cultures in the municipality’s centres and shopping strips, prompting community conversations, sharing stories across generations and exploring community attachment to place.

Whether still standing or just a memory, these shops and the people who run them are a unique record of a time, place, and a changing local retail scene. This exhibition brings together interviews by Aron Lewin and photographs by Tatiana CC Scott of Tales and Brick and Mortar, alongside historic and contemporary photography, objects and stories.

Talking Shops: Glen Eira Stories invites you to share your memories and step back in time to see how our community has changed.
