Reporting child abuse

We are all responsible for keeping children and young people safe from child abuse and harm.

Council will report to the relevant authorities any incident, disclosure or reasonable belief of child abuse or harm that has occurred, is occurring, or is at risk of occurring to any child or young person under the age of 18 years in their home, community or a Council service.

Your Role

You should report any incident, disclosure reasonable belief that child abuse or harm has occurred, is occurring, or is at risk of occurring to any child or young person under the age of 18 years. Failure to disclose physical or sexual abuse may result in a criminal offence.

The same applies if you have concerns in relation to the behaviour of any individual associated with Council. This can include council employees, volunteers, contractors or Councillors.

Council is committed to being a child-safe organisation. All concerns raised with Council by children, young people, or adults will be taken seriously and — where required — reported to the appropriate authority and investigated by Council.
