Who is responsible for vehicle crossings?

Vehicle crossings may be on either Council or VicRoads-managed roads. If you’re the benefiting property owner, you’re responsible for building the vehicle crossing and adjacent footpath.

Do I need a permit for a vehicle crossing?

Yes, you need a permit to build, modify, remove or repair a vehicle crossing and adjacent footpath.

When you complete your vehicle crossing permit application, one of our officers will inspect the proposed location to ensure the protection of assets belonging to us and other authorities.

If we approve the application, we’ll issue your vehicle crossing permit. If we don’t approve the application, we’ll inform you.

What is the cost of the Permit?

Can I apply for a vehicle crossing permit online?

Yes, you can register to apply for permits online. When we approve your registration, we’ll send you a confirmation email. If you’re already registered, please log in.

What if a vehicle crossing is damaged?

As the owner of a benefiting property, we may ask you to repair, replace or remove a vehicle crossing or footpath section if it is potentially hazardous to road and footpath users.
