Kitchen knives

Kitchen knives can be sold, gifted, or donated to select op shops.

Knives that are no longer suitable for reuse can be taken to waste transfer stations for recycling as scrap metal.

If you cannot take your knives to a transfer station, they can be secured and disposed of in the red general waste bin. A convenient way to secure the knife is to wrap the blade in paper towel or newspaper, then fold a piece of cardboard in half over the blade, before affixing it with tape.

Kitchen knives should not be included in hard rubbish collections as they are collected manually.

Reuse tip: Get your knives sharpened routinely. If your knives are feeling a bit blunt, get them sharpened when you can. Sharper blades are considered safer because dull blades needs more force to cut, increasing the chance of injury. When purchasing new or secondhand knives, invest in high-quality blades with good balance and a sturdy handle.
