Syringes, needles and sharps

Please never put syringes in any household waste bins or public bins. Syringes need to be put in a sharps disposal unit or reported for collection.

You can safely throw syringes away at a disposal unit at:

  • Our Service Centre, Glen Eira Town Hall, 420 Glen Eira Road Caulfield.
  • Any Glen Eira public toilet.

Reporting a syringe or needle

If you find syringes on Council land - for example, on nature strips, parks, shopping strips or pavements - we will pick them up.

To report them, contact our Customer Service team on 03 9524 3333.

Please note that for reporting a syringe, it's better to call our Customer Service team rather than use the Snap Send Solve app.

If you find a syringe on private property, you can call the Victorian Syringe Disposal Helpline on 1800 888 236

Free syringe containers for residents

Our needle and syringe container program allows you to dispose of used containers in a sharps collection bin at our Service Centre. We replace all returned sharps containers with a new container, free of charge.

Please never put syringe containers in any household waste bins or public waste bins.

When the Service Centre is closed, residents can go to either of the following addresses to drop off their sharps containers or enquire about a sharps container pickup:
