What is Taste4Health and Taste4Health Kids?

Taste4Health and Taste4Health Kids are nutrition programs that recognise and reward local food businesses committed to promoting healthy eating in our community.

These programs are based on the Australian Dietary Guidelines. We partnered with dieticians from Bentleigh-Bayside Community Health Service to develop flexible assessment criteria that can be applied across various types of food businesses in our community.

To participate, businesses must meet a set number of criteria in each of the four assessment categories: fat, salt, sugar, and fibre.

Who can participate?

These programs are open to restaurants, cafés and takeaway food outlets that have received our Five-Star safe food rating following their annual food safety assessment.

Council’s Five-Star Safe Food Program is a risk-based approach to food safety assessments. The Program provides incentives for high-performing businesses that actively manage food safety risks, continuously improve practices, and comply with national and state food safety laws.

To achieve a Five-Star food safety rating, food businesses must:

• achieve an overall low-risk rating and a compliance score between 95 and 100 per cent with National Food Safety Standards
• have completed all recommendations made at the previous assessment
• have a suitably trained food safety supervisor
• pass Council’s food hygiene questionnaire
• pass all food sampling results within the previous 12 months
• have no justified complaints within the previous 12 months.

What are the benefits?

Businesses that meet the criteria will receive:

• a certificate and a window decal to display in their shop
• inclusion in our Safe Food Guide on our website

How to participate

To get involved, complete the registration form to express your interest. An environmental health officer will contact you within seven days to arrange an assessment time. We will let you know on the day of the assessment if you are successful. Certified food businesses will be posted their certificate and window sticker within seven days after the assessment.
