Take action in the community

Responding to the climate and ecological crises requires a joint effort, with all hands on deck. You can get involved in Glen Eira in many ways, from raising your voice to push for change, to joining local groups and programs or taking action through schools and other organisations.

Sustainability Champions

Our 10-week Sustainability Champions program offers training and support to help you create change and deliver local environmental projects.

Local climate advocacy

The scale and urgency of the climate emergency requires policy and systems-level change, not only individual action. You can join others in raising your voice for stronger climate action by getting involved with Glen Eira Climate Action Now and the Climate Action: South-East Melbourne MP Engagement Group

Local community groups

Do you want to join with others to care for our environment? There are a range of active sustainability community groups that welcome new volunteers.

Sustainability in schools and children’s centres

There are a range of educational resources and related assistance available to support local schools to take climate action and embed sustainability into their curriculum and operations.

Plastic free initiatives

Run sustainable events using our plastic free event guide and be inspired by the businesses who reduced and replaced single-use plastic items with reusable or compostable alternatives as part of Plastic Free Elsternwick.

Climate Conversations

People are more likely to take climate action based on conversations with people they trust. If you would like to host a Climate Conversation in your community, you can register and we will connect you with a trained facilitator to lead the conversation.

Sustainability Advisory Committee

Our Sustainability Advisory Committee is main up of community members who provide advice to Council in relation to the climate emergency, energy, circular economy, water and biodiversity.
