To ensure our public places are clean and safe once COVID-19 restrictions are eased in the coming months, a cleaning blitz has commenced in Glen Eira.
Citywide contractors will be disinfecting and wiping down popular areas and communal touch points around Glen Eira, such as bins, public seating, handrails and pedestrian signal buttons.
Glen Eira is one of the metropolitan councils involved in the blitz, which has created employment for people who have lost work as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Glen Eira Mayor Cr Margaret Esakoff welcomed the cleaning blitz, which is part of the Victorian Government’s $500 million Working for Victoria initiative.
“The cleaning blitz will complement the work that we are already doing to slow the spread of COVID-19,” she said.
“Not only does this additional cleaning blitz ensure the community knows that our local streets are being carefully cleaned for their safety, it is also providing jobs to many people who need them.”
