Glen Eira is proud of its rich diversity. People born in more than 100 different countries call our City home.
Many of our residents have friends or family affected by the fighting.
All of us are seeing the disturbing images coming from the conflict.
At Council, our focus is on supporting and strengthening the already strong ties within our community.
We are working with our community groups and agencies like Victoria Police to ensure our community is safe and inclusive for all who live here.
Glen Eira is a place where our residents should be able to respectfully share their views and exercise their right to protest.
We are also a community of many faiths and backgrounds, and no one should ever feel unsafe at their place of worship. Unfortunately, that is what we saw at the weekend.
The scenes we saw in Caulfield South were disgraceful and not reflective of our community or our values.
As your Council, we will always work to stamp out racism and antisemitism.
We will continue to celebrate the rich diversity that makes Glen Eira a great place to live, work and visit.
We will keep working with our police and community groups to keep our community and businesses safe.
We stand united with our community in condemning the attacks and mourning the loss of life.
We grieve the loss of life and injuries and call for the swift return of those taken captive.
