Council met on 25 June 2024 and considered 11 different reports.
At the meeting, Council endorsed the actions we’ll take to deliver the Council Plan 2021–2025 aspirations over the next 12 months. A few key highlights include delivering the Council elections, completion of Carnegie Memorial Swimming Pool and moving from gas to electricity across five Council facilities. You can follow the progress of these initiatives by reading our Quarterly Service Performance Reports and Annual Report.
We endorsed our Advocacy Priorities 2024–2025 to show where other levels of government can partner with us to deliver community outcomes. This builds on our work to foster partnerships with government agencies and peak bodies. Through these collaborations we can achieve more significant change in areas like the protection of our open spaces, introduce policy reforms that help us take climate change action and advocacy asks for homelessness relief, mental health, addressing family violence, and flood mitigation.
We shared the progress of our emissions reduction pathway. Our actions to date have been both visible and perhaps less noticeable — from the 21 electric Council cars you see driving around the municipality, to engaging with our community and providing education programs, and protecting our urban forest. As the science evolves, and as our Council Plan and Climate Emergency Strategy come to an end, we are thinking about what the next phase of our emissions reduction pathway will look like.
We endorsed our Economic Development Action Plan for the next two years, to keep making Glen Eira a great place to invest and do business. This Plan is our approach to supporting the growth of the local economy and businesses. It responds to new opportunities and challenges, such as the shift to hybrid working, activity centre usage and e-commerce.
