We can expect to see more e-scooters on our streets after VicRoads extended their trial of private e-scooters over summer.
Victoria Police Sergeant Jeremy Tay says it’s great to see people using alternative modes of transport such as e-scooters but they must follow the relevant road rules.
“Some of these rules include that the rider much be over the age of 16, scooters can only travel at a maximum speed of 20km per hour, and they must not be ridden on footpaths,” he says.
“If e-scooters are used in a safe manner, they’re an excellent way to get around.”
Michael, from St Kilda East, says he loves using his e-scooter to get around locally.
“ If you’re respecting the rules, it feels safe and I haven’t experienced any issues. It’s a great alternative to taking the car for smaller trips.”
