Have your say on shared aged care services proposal

Council decided at its Ordinary Council Meeting on 1 May to consult with the community and staff regarding a proposal for Bayside City Council to provide in-home and social support services to Glen Eira residents. We want to hear what you think about the proposal.

Glen Eira and Bayside City Councils have been working on a proposal for Bayside to provide in-home and social support services to Glen Eira residents.

Glen Eira City Council is now consulting independent living services users, their families and carers, staff, volunteers and the wider community on the proposal.

The proposal was developed in response to the Australian Government’s aged care reforms that make it hard for all councils to continue to run services.

So far 45 councils in Victoria have stopped providing in-home and social support services. Only three metropolitan Melbourne councils plan to continue to provide services under the new reforms once the Australian Government’s reforms are in place

We believe our proposal is an example of how neighbouring councils can collaborate to provide a sustainable council-run service that meets both communities’ needs.

Benefits for Glen Eira residents

  • Continued quality care: Ensuring our residents continue to receive quality care and support from a trusted council-run service as well as additional services as their needs change.
  • Experience: Benefiting from Bayside City Council’s extensive 50-year track record in aged care.
  • Greater scale: Bayside is a larger Council and offers more services than Glen Eira, including care to help you as your needs change and become more complex.
  • No change to Warrawee: This proposal does not impact Council’s residential aged care facility, Warrawee.
