Cr Zyngier served as a Councillor for the Camden Ward from 2020 to 2023 and was a member of several committees including the Local Government Working Group on Gambling, Multicultural Advisory Committee and Sustainability Committee.

Cr Zyngier was awarded the AM posthumously for his significant service to tertiary education and to the community of Glen Eira.

Cr Zyngier was a longtime member of the Glen Eira community, a passionate advocate for climate action and youth affairs.

Cr Zyngier was also former teacher and principal and involved in education policy and research.
