New employment opportunities to be created in the City of Glen Eira

New employment opportunities will be created in the City of Glen Eira, thanks to the State Government’s $500 million Working for Victoria program.

The State Government has struck agreements with 15 Victorian councils, including Glen Eira City Council, to support more than 1,000 people into jobs.

The Working for Victoria program matches people who have lost their job, including people that have lost their job due to the economic impacts of COVID-19, with employers who need staff.

Council’s Chief Executive Officer Rebecca McKenzie welcomed today’s announcement.

“The scheme will create just over 160 new employment opportunities for work that is over and above Council’s normal business,” she said.

“The jobs will range from cleansing to business support and a diverse range of jobs in between.

“The new positions will be funded through the Working for Victoria program, and people appointed to them will be paid at the relevant rate for the work undertaken.”

Council is working with the Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions to finalise the agreement. It’s expected that the first opportunities to kick-off under this new agreement will commence in the next couple of weeks.
