Striving for a healthy Glen Eira

We aim to support everyone in Glen Eira to live a healthy, inclusive and resilient life.

We believe in supporting our community to be healthy in mind and body. An important part of our work is raising awareness about health issues that have free support to act on. We have created an area on our website with information and resources about some of the top health issues and the support available. These are:

Alcohol

Alcohol is one of the top 10 avoidable causes of disease and death in Victoria. Alcohol can cause increased vulnerability and negative mental health impacts of social isolation, family violence and the risk of developing long-term health conditions.

Vaping

The popularity of e-cigarettes and vapes has increased significantly. They are unsafe, particularly for young people, and contain harmful chemicals that may impact both mental and physical health.

Smoking

Tobacco smoking is the single most important preventable cause of ill health and death. Smoking harms almost every organ of the body, causing many diseases and reducing the general health of people who smoke.

Cervical cancer screening

Cervical cancer is one of the most preventable cancers and can be successfully treated if detected early. Screening is free and recommended every five years, and a new self-screening procedure is now available for ages 25–74 years.
