Create a Facebook page for your small business

Facebook is now the third most visited website in Australia, behind Google and YouTube. Given that 60% of the Australian population has Facebook and that 50% of users find a business Facebook page more useful than a company website, it is essential that you consider having a presence on the platform.

Creating a Facebook Page as a business is a simple process that will open up a world of opportunities for your business. Here’s how to get started.

Step 1. Once you log in to Facebook, follow the instructions to Create a Page.

Step 2. Give your Page a name (usually your business name), select up to three categories that reflect your business and provide a short description about what your business offers (your business elevator pitch).

Step 3. Upload a profile image (usually a business logo) and cover photo (this is the banner that runs across the top of your page and is often used to display your store or products). The recommended image sizes are:

  • Profile photo (170 x 180 pixels)
  • Cover photo (1640 x 850 pixels)

Canva is a free image creation tool that is ideal for resizing your images and creating content for social media.

Step 4. Once you've created your Page, add a call to action that directs your Page visitors to do something such as call your business or go to the website.

Step 5. Add special content to your Facebook Page, such as displaying your restaurant menulisting your services or setting up an online shop.
