Our Driving It Down campaign educates and promotes awareness to address the issue of theft from vehicles and theft of vehicles in targeted hotspot areas of Glen Eira.
Driving It Down
The campaign is funded by the Victorian State Government’s Community Safety Fund.
Street signs, postcards and a video have been designed with four key messages toward securing your car:
- Park in a well-lit area.
- Remove all valuables.
- Always lock your car.
- Secure your keys.
Key rings have also been designed to promote the message ‘secure your car’.
This short video outlines these steps.
Forty-three street signs have been installed in car parking locations across Glen Eira in Bentleigh, East Bentleigh, Caulfield, Carnegie, Murrumbeena, Ormond, McKinnon, Elsternwick and Glen Huntly. These highly-visible red, white and black signs remind car users and train commuters to secure their car before they leave to shop or travel on public transport.
As part of the campaign, face-to-face engagement events with Victoria Police officers, Neighbourhood Watch members and Council were held at ‘Slave to the Bean’ Café in Carnegie and East Bentleigh Farmer’s Market.
Residents could meet and chat with their local police officers and Neighbourhood Watch members at the engagements.
The Driving It Down campaign is funded by the Victorian State Government’s Community Safety Fund and responds to the high level of importance that Glen Eira residents have placed on community safety in feedback to Council.
