The Carnegie Memorial Swimming Pool has officially reopened after Glen Eira City Council revitalised this much-loved community icon to meet the needs of future generations.
Council, state and federal representatives joined with community members and staff to officially open the pool.
Glen Eira Mayor Cr Simone Zmood said the redeveloped facility was the result of all levels of government working together for future generations.
“Carnegie Memorial Swimming Pool has always been a cherished part of our community, and with the support of the Victorian and Australian Governments, this redevelopment ensures it will continue to be a place for recreation, health, and connection for decades to come,” she said.
“Thousands of children and adults have swum, splashed and dived into the pools since we opened doors to the community last month and we look forward to this facility becoming a key part of the community’s health, wellbeing and social connection for generations to come.”
The local Federal Member for Hotham, Clare O’Neil MP – who’s also representing the Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government – said this redevelopment means so much to our local community and beyond.
“It’s been the talk of Carnegie and Ormond all summer. It’s where neighbourhood kids will take their first swim, where friends will meet and where everyone – whatever their age – can stay active. It’s great to see federal investment, alongside state and local, delivering projects that truly bring people together.” she said.
Oakleigh MP Steve Dimopoulos representing the Minister for Community Sport and the Minister for Disability said the new facility was designed to welcome everyone of all ages and abilities.
“From dedicated lap swimmers to kids just wanting to have some fun in the water, facilities like these are integral to the health and wellbeing of our local communities,”
“The Victorian Government is giving suburbs like Carnegie the facilities they need so more locals can boost their health and participate in the leisure activities they love.” he said.
The $75 million redevelopment has transformed Carnegie Memorial Swimming Pool into a modern aquatic and leisure space, while preserving its historic charm.
