Council meeting snapshot for 17 December 2024

Council met on 17 December 2024 and considered six reports.

We explain some of the highlights from the meeting below.

Adoption of the Glen Eira Leisure Customer Behaviour Policy

Glen Eira Leisure (GEL) is committed to maintaining a respectful environment in all its facilities, so everyone feels safe and welcome. A GEL Customer Behaviour Policy has been developed to address customer misconduct and ensure fair, transparent, and consistent management of customer issues.

The key issues covered in the policy include:

  • Misconduct and Serious Misconduct: The policy distinguishes between "misconduct" (unsatisfactory behaviour not causing serious harm) and "serious misconduct" (behaviour that risks health or safety).
  • Procedural Fairness and Confidentiality: The Policy outlines clear steps for investigating misconduct, including gathering evidence, conducting interviews, and offering customers the opportunity to respond to allegations.
  • Outcomes and Proportionality: Depending on the severity of the behaviour, outcomes range from discussions and warnings to suspension or withdrawal of membership.
  • Customer Rights and Dispute Resolution: The policy offers customers the right to escalate complaints regarding the process under the Glen Eira City Council’s Complaints Handling Policy.

Council’s endorsement of this Policy helps GEL uphold the standards of behaviour expected from all customers and make sure everyone can enjoy their time at GEL’s facilities.

Classified Tree Register — five new trees added

Five gum trees have been registered as protected trees in Glen Eira’s Classified Tree Register:

  • Two River Red Gums (Eucalyptus camaldulensis) located at Boyd Park, Murrumbeena

  • River Red Gum (Eucalyptus camaldulensis) located at King George IV Reserve, Bentleigh East

We have received many nominations for trees in Boyd Park with some people applying for every tree within the reserve to be listed on the Register. Several of these trees are still under assessment.
