Council gives in-principle support for LXRP Queens Ave cycling corridor detailed design

Following community engagement and hearing from more than 900 people, Council has given in-principle support for the Level Crossing Removal Project’s (LXRP) proposed Queens Avenue Copenhagen-style on-road cycling corridor to move to detailed design.

Council made its decision after considering the community’s feedback as well as a Council officers’ report which provided advice on strategic planning, engineering, risks, and impacts on amenity.

While supporting the Queens Avenue Copenhagen-style on-road option, Council implored the LXRP to work closely with us during the detailed design process to avoid parking loss and boost safety. Council also asked the LXRP to conduct a feasibility study into some suggested ways to achieve this.

The council will consider a further report at the conclusion of the detailed design process.

At its meeting the Council publicly thanked residents and community members for sharing their views throughout the engagement process and acknowledged that it had been a difficult time for them.

We are committed to working with the Victorian Minister for Transport Infrastructure and LXRP during the detailed design phase to explore any opportunities to minimise parking loss on Queens Avenue.

Council will now write to the Minister and LXRP to inform them of its in-principle support and suggestions for how an appropriate outcome can be achieved.

The LXRP will now decide whether it will accept Council’s recommendations.
