Liberal Party announces $10 million funding commitment for Carnegie Memorial Swimming Pool

The Liberal Party has announced a funding commitment of $10 million to help Glen Eira City Council complete the $52 million redevelopment of Carnegie Memorial Swimming Pool if a Liberal Government is re-elected in May.

At today’s announcement, Member for Higgins Dr Katie Allen MP, Attorney General Senator Michaelia Cash and Member for Goldstein Tim Wilson MP said the pool was incredibly important for the health and wellbeing of the community, especially after the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The new facility will feature an indoor warm water program pool and 25-metre learn-to-swim pool, a 50-metre outdoor pool and diving pool, a concourse spa and numerous allied health services.

Glen Eira Mayor Cr Jim Magee said the pool will be designed and constructed to a 6 Star Green Star rating, making it one of the most environmentally friendly and sustainable pools in the world.

“This commitment by the Liberal Party will help deliver ongoing social, environmental and economic benefits to our community for years to come. We are delighted that as a result of our advocacy, this community facility will be a true partnership project between Local and Federal Government,” he said.

The project is shovel ready with construction commencement feasible by late 2022.
