At a Special Council Meeting on Monday 9 November, Rosstown Ward Councillor Margaret Esakoff was elected Mayor of Glen Eira for the 2020–21 Council year.
Cr Esakoff is a long-time resident of Glen Eira. She was educated in Rosstown Ward and has lived there almost all of her adult life. She is serving her sixth term on Council, and served as Mayor this year, as well as in 2005, 2007 and 2011. She was Deputy Mayor in 2008 and 2010.
Cr Esakoff thanked community members for the support and trust they have shown in electing her for a sixth term on Council.
“I will do my best over the next four years to ensure the things that the community care about are carried through,” she said.
“I would also like to thank my Councillor colleagues for the support and trust they have bestowed in me to carry out the Mayoral role for what is the first year of this new term of Council.
“I will do everything I can to ensure we work productively together for our community.
“The first year of a new term of Council always sets the tone for the term and I am confident that this new group will work collaboratively together for the benefit of all members of the community.
“I welcome the new Councillors and look forward to assisting them through the transition into their new role.”
Tucker Ward Councillor Jim Magee, who is serving his fourth term on Council, was elected Deputy Mayor.
