This is an update regarding the future redevelopment of Carnegie Swim Centre.
We know that many of you were concerned to hear that Carnegie Swim Centre will not be reopening this season, after we identified a significant leak. Unfortunately, after 54 years of summer fun, the pool has reached the end of its practical life and it is now uneconomical to try and repair it.
The great news is that Council is committed to redeveloping Carnegie Swim Centre in a way that respects the history and location of this much-loved community facility. We propose to allocate funding to commence the redevelopment in our 2021–22 Annual Budget and will be inviting our State and Federal MPs to partner with us through additional grant funding. The project is projected to generate 92.7 jobs during construction and at least a further 31.3 jobs to operate — much needed stimulus for our local economy.
We will be conducting further communication with the community on the design early in the new year, so look out for further updates on our website, social media and in Glen Eira News.
In the meantime, you can stay cool in the outdoors this summer by visiting our pools at the Glen Eira Sports and Aquatic Centre in Bentleigh East, our splash pad at Booran Reserve in Glen Huntly or enjoy the shade in one of our many beautiful parks.

Despite reported issues with SKM recycling facilities and major disruptions in the recycling industry, Council’s recycling service remains unaffected and recyclables from our waste services are not going to landfill.
